my recollections are a haze what I remember's just a whirl you know I never got a tattoo for a girl but I wrote your name in disappearing ink and it faded away in a flash and a blink but I swear to you darling it was there and you you wore this starry field of freckles on white shoulders oh I sketched them into little constellations I traced them by your lines to turn the pages over time the story of our shared navigations we are so casual and cruel and I'm the captain of this ship of fools and I remember I said "this isn't our bed but let's lie in it anyway” it didn't take me very far didn't take you anywhere at all it's no mistake it's just another choice you make it's one among millions and everybody's got regrets it can't be that hard to live with it
